Primary Healthcare Clinic

We provide a continuum of health care services for preventative care and chronic disease management for men, women and children. All services are provided regardless of a patient’s insurance status or ability to pay.  The Daily Planet’s Primary Medical Clinic is a full service healthcare provider. Services include: physicals, diabetes testing/management, asthma/nebulizer treatments, lab testing, routine gynecological (PAPS & pregnancy testing), TB testing*, HIV testing & counseling** as well as referrals for other needed medical treatment.

The Daily Planet Healthcare Center Hours:
Monday-Friday
8am-4:30pm*

The Daily Planet Open Access Hours (for existing patients only): All day Monday, Wednesday afternoon, and Friday 10AM-4:30PM

* TB testing is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am – 3pm.  Walk-ins only. There is a $20 charge or free with shelter referral. A follow up visit is required to receive results of the TB test.

**HIV testing is available on the first and third Monday of each month from 1pm to 3pm on a walk-in basis only.  This service is provided free of charge.

Behavioral Health Clinic

Our Behavioral Health Clinic provides mental health counseling (group, one-on-one and family), substance abuse counseling, medication management and evaluation,  and psychiatric evaluations and assessments.

The Daily Planet’s Behavioral Health Clinic services include: assessment & evaluations for treatment, counseling & therapy (individuals, group & family), psychiatric services.

The Daily Planet Behavioral Health Clinic Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm (closed between 12pm and 1pm)

To receive Behavioral Health Services:

  1. Central registration
  2. Initial mental health assessment:
    Available Monday – Thursday at 10am for the first three clients
    (due to the limited slots, you should arrive by 8:00am to be registered and to put your name on the list).  Some intake appointments may be arranged once registered.
  3. Psychiatry appointments (after initial mental health assessment) are scheduled by calling 804-649-2119 ext. 274.

Current open groups:

Mondays at 1:30 p.m.

Open support group for those seeking support for medical and co-occurring behavioral health conditions.

Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.

Open support group for people struggling to maintain their recovery from both substance abuse and mental health problems.

Other groups are available on referral from other Daily Planet staff.

Oral Health

The Daily Planet Dental Clinic now has 3 emergency service days (extractions only): Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am

Our dental clinic provides full service dental services offering routine and preventative services. These services include: cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, dentures and root canals.

Emergency service is ONLY for extractions, and is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 8am – 3pm. Emergency patient services are on a first come, first served basis.

Eye Health

Our Eye Care Clinic provides a full line of eye care services including eye examinations to evaluate cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and other eye diseases and disorders; glasses and corrective lenses are also offered.

Eye Care Clinic is available once a month on a first come, first serve basis.  For additional information call 804-649-2119 ext. 249.

There is a co-pay for eye care, which includes eye exam and glasses (if needed). The copay is based on a sliding scale.

Case Management

Case Management assists individuals who have multiple, complex barriers to resolving homelessness. Case Management offers resources to create a stable lifestyle while utilizing a comprehensive, integrated approach for an individual’s holistic wellness. As a way of sustaining homeless individuals on their way to stability, basic life services are offered which include access to showers, laundry facilities, and escrow banking.

Uninsured or New?

If you are uninsured, we have a sliding scale program to minimize your healthcare costs. To qualify for this assistance, please bring:

  • Photo identification
  • Insurance card or VCC card
  • Proof of income or statement of no income (example: Noticec of Action Food Stamps)
  • Your most recent tax return, W-2, or a social services determination letter
  • Homeless agency referral, if applicable

For medical, dental and behavioral health services, new patients and patients returning after 6 or more months must first go through The Daily Planet’s central registration before receiving services.
