December 31, 2004 Health Care for the Homeless Medical Director Honored by Medical Society of Virginia FoundationRICHMOND – Dr. Dianne Reynolds-Cane, medical director at The Daily Planet’s Health Care for the Homeless clinic, recently garnered the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation’s Salute to Service award for her dedication to the medical profession. Dr. Reynolds-Cane was honored at the Foundation’s third annual Gala and Auction at the Crystal Gateway Mariott in Arlington and was also presented a $500 check for The Daily Planet. "We are privileged to have Dianne as a staff member of The Planet," said Peter Prizzio, executive director of The Daily Planet. "We’ve made amazing strides in our health care program and that progress is directly attributable to Dianne and her genuine caring for others. She cares deeply about what she does, the clients she serves and the community she lives in and it’s what makes her an invaluable asset to our organization." Dr. Reynolds-Cane is the former president of the Virginia Board of Medicine, and served as medical director of Henrico County Jails, a free clinic physician at Cross-Over Health Center, and civilian medical officer at the Pentagon and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She has also served on the boards of Freedom House, Sacred Heart Center, St. Christopher’s School, the Richmond History Center and Randolph-Macon College. The Medical Society of Virginia Foundation is the philanthropic partnership between the Medical Society of Virginia and the Medical Society of Virginia Alliance. The Salute to Service awards are given to physicians and Alliance members who are dedicated to creating and nurturing a caring health and disease prevention environment by providing service on behalf of the military and general public, service to the uninsured and underserved, service to the international community and service to the profession. For nearly 35 years, the Daily Planet has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in Central Virginia. The Daily Planet’s mission is to strengthen and enrich the lives of those who are homeless, potentially homeless, or lacking the social, emotional and financial resources to create a stable lifestyle, and to provide a safe and supportive community where survival and growth needs are met through appropriate methods of intervention responsive to the needs of the individual. |
